The new Route 865 realignment project continues slightly ahead of schedule as the main bridge structure is in place. East Main Street has been removed down to its base in preparation for eventual repaving and curbing. Completion should be reached some time in October. July 12, 2002 — Looking northeast at the corner of East
Main and Antis Streets, you can see that all the cement beams (some
of which weighed 108 tons each) have been set in place. Crews can be
seen continuing the seemingly endless re-routing of wires in the area
and forming the sides of the bridge for pouring soon. When completed,
access to Route 865 from East Main will be attained by continuing under
the bridge and then turning right up and around to the intersection.
This view is to the northwest from East 3rd Street shows the sweeping
curve leading onto the span. The parked white pickup truck to the right
is aimed right down the access ramp for East Main Street. The white
house just above the truck was the last of five houses to be set temporarily
on it's new resting place and is currently waiting for a new foundation
to be built under it. The house to the
left was moved one lot to the left several months ago to make room
for the re-route.
Standing on the “Bridge Hill” looking toward Fostoria provides
this view of it's successor. Final grading and cement work continue
on the west (left) end of the structure near where it will connect back
up with original Route 865 at the intersection of North 1st and Tuckahoe
Streets.
