Us This view of Elizabeth Furnace is from the top looking directly down into the brick-lined "bosh", where the iron ore was heated and separated from impurities. The smoother-textured ring is where the taper begins, funneling down to a narrow bottom now filled partially with leaves and branches. After nearly 170 years since being built, it's in relatively good shape. Approximate inside dimensions: 13 feet high and 6 feet in diameter. |
