Us This detail of the Bell House Mansion shows the southern corner of the structure. Not only is the ornate trim obvious, but a closer look at the brick patterns reveals an interesting design element used in even these earliest of brick homes. The right side (front of the home) has EVERY course of brick repeating a pattern of alternating the bricks lengthwise, then endwise, laterally. The left side of the photo depicts how all the remaining walls were constructedfor every course of bricks set endwise, the mason laid FIVE courses of brick lengthwise, with no alternating layers as in the entire front wall. In a design sense, this announced the front of the home.
